no there is no difference between them.
The original template should display the copyright.
Maybe your special template can not display the copyright?
I needed this when changing the index.html and defining absolute CSS div positions. This resulted in the copyright been shown on the top of the page where it unhopefully looked a bit displaced.
To switch off the automatically created copyright notice you can implement "define('RM',true);" at the bottom of "core/application_top.php".
(But please don't forget to add the copyright notice manually in the footer of your index.html template file afterwards .)
